Callum - Plague boy

Callum is a young boy who lives in 1645, in Edinburgh. It's a tough place to live there during the plague. Infected rats are filling the streets and houses, and many people get sick and die. As a toddler, he discovers a rat that seems always willing to play with him, and of course, he didn't know the dangers yet. The boy and the rat keep their friendship hidden as they grow older, and the rat doesn't seem able to infect the boy.
When his mother discovers Callum befriended a rat, she believes the rat is the reason her husband and Callums father died. Because of that, she puts the boy and the rat on the street, not wanting them anywhere near her ever again. From that moment Callum and the rat had to take care of themselves. Sadly the boy catches a load of gardy loo while on the streets, which meant a certain death. He will catch the plague which makes his hands and feet turn black. Soon after that, he will die.

The model here is a visualization of the moment he realizes he had the plague, and knows he will die. Because Callum and his rat friend live on their own on the streets, the boy doesn't have much valuables. He has ragged clothes and I made him standing on the dirty streets of Edinburgh. I tried to make the lighting look like sunshine after rain, because it rains a lot in the UK.

He and the rat live on though, Callum as a peaceful ghost, the rat as a living being, stuck with the sickness. I hope to visualize Callum and the rat together soon.

This is my second 3D character, I'm quite happy with the result and it was a lot of fun working on him!
